These are great if you don’t have the space to store a full-sized stiff-rubber muck boot in your backpack or you don’t like the weight of carrying around a regular pair. I got the XL size and they fit almost perfectly over my hiking boots. I wear a 9 US women’s boot.I will probably store these in my car when I’m not hiking and will be using these as a mud/water prevention layer over my hiking boots (which I wear as my “regular” shoes) when needed. I also have a couple of applications at work where I have a really muddy area behind some buildings I have to work in, that these will help keep my regular boots clean.Although I have “waterproof” hiking boots, these add a bit of extra height on the water level and can help if I have to cross an ankle-high stream that is too wide for me to jump, or if it’s pouring rain and there is a lot of mud on the trail. These will prevent my hiking boots from getting caked up and dragging all that into my shelter. I can peel these off at the door while still being able to use my regular boots to navigate the paved area. They also rinse off fairly easily. The “sole” of the boot is not very textured, so be aware that traction is reduced when using these, but boy does it help that there aren’t treads to trap the dirt.I wouldn’t go wade fishing in these and expose them to submersion for a long period, but they are sewn with a full length water membrane flap up the side of the zipper area to prevent water from sloshing in when you cross a stream. They fasten just below my knee. The zipper opens to show a generous sized flap that unfolds so you can stuff your shoe in. Once you get it on you zip up the side, and then fasten a snap at the top that is sewn into a “stretchy” band that lightly grips your leg to help keep the boot up. It’s not made out of super-stiff material. If you wear it a lot, the fabric may start to sag if the elastic band isn’t very snug. Unfortunately there doesn’t seem to be any way to tighten that band to make sure it’s secured on your leg. That band is the reason I gave 1 star off. It’s not well finished in my opinion. The end of the elastic is rough-cut and barely finished enough to not fray. I can see that the snap that is attached to it will probably have issues with staying attached in after some wear. I can also see myself having to pause and pull these up after I wear them for a while and the elastic stretches some, when I have to keep them on for a while if it’s a long stretch of hiking with mud or it is raining a lot.Overall I think these are a good buy for the price so long as they stand up to a minimum period of use. I’ll report back if they fail too soon for my liking, but it hasn’t rained enough where I am when I’ve needed to go outside for me to really put them through a good test. The little I have been able to do so far has been a positive experience, though. [...]
